1998 Senior Scholar, Cynthia Kenyon, Wins King Faisal Prize

Dr. Cynthia Kenyon, Ellison Medical Foundation Senior Scholar and Herbert Boyer Distinguished Professor of Biochemistry and Biophysics at the University of California, San Francisco was presented the King Faisal International Prize for Medicine by Prince Sultan bin Abdulaziz at a ceremony in Riyadh, Saudia Arabia on May 14, 2000. Dr. Kenyon's work with C. elegans has demonstrated that aging is controlled hormonally through the insulin receptor system. She was presented a certificate summarizing her work, a 24-carat, 200-gram gold medal, and a cash award of $200,000. Dr. Kenyon was one of 6 recipients of the 2000 King Faisal International Prize; others were awarded in the fields of biology, Arabic literature, and Islamic studies. (From: Riyadh Daily, May 14, 2000)
